Goal: Make 100% of All Web Surfers Use FireFox
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I was checking my blog statistics in detail and came upon something that shocked me!
More than 13% of my blog visitors didn’t use the most amazing of all browsers:
FireFox!
So I asked my man Sherief to create a down-and-dirty script that would change that. He came up with a cool javascript code.
1. Just upload the .js file to your server,
2. place a code on your blog pages,
3. and anyone who visits your blog using a non-FireFox browser will see a float ad on the top-right corner of the page that asks them to download FireFox!

And yes, I’m using the Google Adsense FireFox code. So… for every person who clicks on the ad and downloads FireFox, I will earn $1!
I’ll actually get paid in my quest to make 100% of web surfers use FireFox! How cool is that?
I’ve been testing the javascript code since the past week. And have finally decided to make it available for free to everyone. No catch. But because of lack of time, no support will be provided for this script. Don’t worry, its fairly easy to install.
Live Demonstration:
Visit this blog through a non-FireFox browser and you will see the FireFox float ad in action at the top right corner of this page.
Action Summary:
- Download the ff100.zip file and install the script on your blog / website.
- Pass this script to your other blogging friends.
Oh and… This script is beer-ware. If you use it, please consider buying me a beer.
If you liked this post, buy me a beer. (Suggested: $3 a beer or $7.5 for a pitcher)Spread the word:

I don’t think it will ever be possible to reach 100%, unless you block visitors from your site unless they use Firefox. Certain people just choose other browsers over Firefox. The only reason I’m sticking with Firefox is because of the ability to use extensions. I would actually love to switch to using Safari in Windows. The only reason that’s not an option for me is because it doesn’t have extensions. Hopefully Apple will add that feature.

I think it will be cool if you can add one more option, like if the browser is firefox then dropdown menu shows to download google pack…and for browsers other than firefox it will show download firefox…
And i guess it just require an if, else statement…

Thanks Jared
i. I <3 FireFox.
ii. And I know that 100% people using FireFox is not a possible goal.
iii. But it makes for a good headline.
iv. The whole script is a “Create a linkable Goodie” plan in action (New readers, Search for “Budget Blog Marketing” on this blog.)
v. I think this is a very good script for people who love FireFox and would love to earn some coffee change out of promoting it.

Hi Vibhash,
Thanks for commenting.
Thats a good idea you have.
Unfortunately, my programmer Sherief is too busy right now to modify this script to add the feature you want.
But maybe you can create a cool script quickly that serves the purpose and make it available for free too.

What a great post and idea. Thanks for sharing. Almost convinces me I should start a blog - almost…

I’m a total no0b… can anyone give me a clue as to how to make the ad scroll further down… what value do I need to change… cuz the ad just remains hidden behind my header.

I totally loves this thing! I always want to annoy the internet explore users!
btw, it might be better if you use id instead of class for the div containing the ad
or you should change the name.
since content is really likely to be used by some themes(like mine)

No response to my query?
Posted 18 Jun 2007 #
Hi Rahul,
My programmer is extremely busy - that is why I made the script available without support. I myself have no idea how to solve the problem.
You may find quicker help on a javascript or css programming forum.
Or you may have to wait a few days till Sherief - my programmer has some free time.
(Solving your problem may just take 2 minutes, but the distraction may end up costing 20 minutes. We’re working against time on some other better applications - so hope you understand that Sherief can’t answer support queries for this script.)

Hi Rahul,
I passed on your question to Sherief - and he gave this reply:
This could be achieved by changing the value on ff100.js line 25.
You can find scrollAds(0,1), change the 0 to position that you want.

Actually you don’t get $1 per 1 new installation of FF. Various countries are paid differently. For example, I am from Slovakia and if anyone installs FF through my adsense code I will get $0.1-$0.2 only (installations in Slovakia).
Basically, it is worth it in USA, UK or similar countries only.
Maybe I will change my adsense code from currently used to FF adsense code and will watch the progress. If 100 visitors would like to install FF on their comptures every day it would be great
. Am going to check my adsense for FF codes… it is good idea to get paid for this stuff. About 66% of my visitors come to my site using MIE. So there is a huge potential
in general.

Jan: Hi and thanks for commenting. Wow - didn’t know that Google paid less to Slovakians than they do others…

Cool plugin script, but I test it and it does not work on your site ( demo ). I noticed as well you got some script errors . I didn’t go to much deep into that.
Cool Blog tho, you might want to be guest blogger on my blog?
Posted 06 Sep 2007 #
Hi - Yes I removed the script from the new theme. But it doesn’t have any errors in it. I’d run it for a whole month before removing it.
I removed it because it didn’t do too well. In the whole month, I just had one person who downloaded FireFox. Thats just $1 earned. So I didn’t think it was worth it.
I have no idea what blog you run, so can’t comment on whether I’ll like to guest blog for you or not.

Too bad Google doesn’t have this feature of making money with Firefox referrals anymore. I haven’t gotten to try your plugin, but it sounds like a really cool idea. You come up with great money making ideas!

Yeah, that really is too bad. I signed up with adsense not too long ago and I won’t have a chance to try it.
