Blended Un-Intrusive Ads Work 850% Better

(Note: I’d made a mistake in selecting the right word. Instead of writing “Un-intrusive”, I’d written “intrusive” everywhere on this post. The mistake has been corrected. Thanks.)
I tested two different display formats of Google Ads on this blog.

1. One format stood out from the body. It had a yellow background and black border.
2. Second format was more un-intrusive and had the same look and feel with the rest of the body. With white background and border.
The results:
- Yellow-Black outstanding ads had a click through rate of 0.02%.
- White-White un-intrusive ads had a click through rate of 0.17%.
Intrusive ads outperformed the outstanding ads by 850%!
Action Summary:
- If you make your ads stand out from the body of your blog, people will start ignoring it.
- So you’ve got to make your ads un-intrusive. Disguise them to merge with your posts. And your click through ratios and earnings will go through the roof.

I don’t think “intrusive” is the right word for this

Hasn’t Google been telling us all for ages that the CTR would be higher if the ads are intrusive (though they call them blended in) ?

Thanks Dave and John.
Not sure what I was thinking while I wrote the post…
I totally didn’t mean “intrusive”…
…In fact, I meant to write “un-intrusive”!

You have lots of information. Your blog is going to superhit soon. What you think about my blog?

I made nearly the same experiences when I put some adsense blocks on my stocks-tips pages. Useing some outstanding styles (colors and background) gave my a clickrate of about 0.6% while a “embedded” style made it up to about 2%.
That’s about a 300% raise. But another tech did even make it up to 4%. It’s the click-block-ads, styled as a line of keywords within the flow of normal content.
Think one needs to change the ad-layout from time to time - just try to be unusual.

I was just thinking to myself that your ads were killing this blog.
It’s not even the amount of ads - it’s the placement of them. They are distracting to the reader.
It’s ironic that you chose to post on this subject.
