Forest Parks: If you go after everyone, you'll end up attracting no one. You have to decide who you want to cater to. Who can be best served with your ideas and writings? Chase them pro-actively. Don't wait for them to find you. Go ahead and find them yourself.
Once you have decided who you are writing for, you can then start asking them what exactly they would like - and start making money.

I'm trying to make my current blog sit in between being MY blog and a small business.

I want to target my audience but at present don't know what they are and how they need targeting. I guess right now in the early stages I should let people find me then grow to accomodate!

Thanks for the advice.

Very interesting. I definitely agree with the points you stated. This also somewhat also goes back to how your "Buy me a beer" plugin may work better than just a donate button. If you give the audience a specific thing to donate towards, you will be more likely to receive donations.
